Our previous post reported about HP’s plans for Windows 8 tablets and now the time has come. New tablets from HP are just around the corner. As per Yves De Talhouet, HP’s director for EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa), more tablets will be coming from HP in a few months. But there is no reference to WebOS or its role in these new devices. The director revealed that HP will be showcasing a Microsoft Windows 8 based tablet at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to be held in Las Vegas in January, 2012.
HP’s TouchPad was launched in July this year, but disappointing sales made HP to discontinue it within just 7 weeks after the launch. There were even talks of HP putting the WebOS on sale and expression of interest were received from companies like Oracle and Amazon. As per De Talhouet, “HP certainly made an attempt to answer the [desire for] tablets”. But the economic conditions made them retreat from the market which is still dominated by Apple to a large extent. According to him, HP’s future tablet strategy is being worked on and would be announced soon.
HP recently announced that it will not be spinning-off its Personal Systems Group (PSG). Most of the analysts gave “thumbs up” to this decision from the new CEO and now the company can move forward after all the indecisiveness. If the Windows 8 tablet to be showcased in CES, Las Vegas is a hit, it might seal the future of WebOS. This success might also provide further impetus and momentum needed to take Windows 8 tablets to the next level.
