We have seen considerable buzz around Windows 8 tablets from HP and now there’s more news. This time it is directly from the horse’s mouth – HP’s CEO Meg Whitman. During a recent earning’s call, she told that HP will be shipping Windows 8 based products by the holidays. As Apple becomes the number one PC maker in the world, HP’s dependence on Windows 8 is growing more significant. According to the CEO, a product is being lined up for a December release which will be based on a x86 processor.
According to reports, HP might be working on three different Windows 8 based products simultaneously. These tablets might be powered by chips from Intel and Qualcomm. Two models based on Intel might be utilizing Intel’s Clover Trail Atom processor. While one of these Intel models will be a laptop/ tablet hybrid, the second model will be a pure tablet. The third Windows 8 based product will be running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor.
According to Meg Whitman, HP is moving ahead with x86 tablets first, as it is not immediately clear when Windows 8 on ARM will be launched. Though HP has a forgettable experience in the tablet market, it cannot avoid the space altogether. They need a tablet product to reclaim their number one PC maker status and a lot of it might just depend on the success of Windows 8.
